Sagip Ondoy-Pepeng Last year, Storm Ondoy and Pepeng created havoc by raising flood waters by dumping huge amounts of rain water. This affected the entire eastern portion of Metro Manila and other parts of the southern Luzon. Pampanga was not spared, as several fatalities were reported at Arayat due to a landslide caused by the heavy rainfall.

The extreme flooding destroyed thousands of homes and made many Filipinos fled for their lives, though many were not so fortunate to make it. The images and news of the calamity spurred JC President Avelaine Nepomuceno and the Angeles City Culiat Jaycees to spearhead a Telethon with Sec. Ed Pamintuan, reminiscent of the successful Sagip Bicol Telethon. They got in touch with the ACCTN PEP TV through JCI Senator Dennis Uy and started the telethon on September 27, 2009.

The donations and support that came were as strong as the flood itself. In less than the amount of time to raise 1.2 Million for the Sagip Bicol, the Sagip Bagyong Ondoy and Pepeng surpassed that amount donated to over 1.6 million. The influx of the cash and goods that arrived was heart warming, it truly showed just how Filipino willingly come together to help each other in dire times.

In record time, the telethon amassed cash and product donations that was repacked and segregated at the Rosegold Warehouse by the Jaycees and civilian volunteers that selflessly donated their time to the very physical work. With the help and support of several JC Local Organizations namely Cabalen, Magalang, Mabalacat, Pangasinan and Dagupan, the Culiat Jaycees where quick to scheduled the relief effort in Pampanga, Dagupan, Marikina and Pangasinan. A total of 8 huge trucks ferried over 10 thousand bags of life saving bags of food, clothes, mineral water, medicines and other necessities for the typhoon victims.

Culiat Jaycees raised 1.6 million in the 3 day telethon.

• 10 thousand bags of goods, clothes and medicines where packed and distributed in 8 trucks.

• Culiat Jaycees delivered relief to 4 areas; Pangasinan, Dagupan, Marikina and Pampanga
