Breaking New Grounds, The President’s Message: JCI Mem Neki Liwanag

Honestly speaking, I have feared the day that the year 2010 will come. It is not because I am turning another year older and thus declaring my membership with the “MD”s as really official (my apologies to those who do not know what MD means, it’s a “Culiat” thing ☺). But, it is more of the challenges and responsibilities that lie ahead which when I think about it, causes me to gasp for air as if I am drowning.

As a 7 year old member and a three time Executive Vice President for the JCI Angeles City “Culiat”, I have seen how great this organization was led on both the chapter’s highs and lows. Maybe this is the reason why I feared 2010, because by then, the responsibility of leading THE JCI Angeles City “Culiat” will be on my shoulders. I am sure my predecessors would agree that leading this prestigious organization is not an easy task. Yet they have successfully ended their term with flying colors. Hats off to all of you for a job well done!

Now that 2010 is here, no matter how hard I try to postpone it, there is no other choice but to embrace it. I realized that there is really nothing to fear knowing that I am surrounded by smart and talented Board of Directors, and Members who share the same passion as I have for the JCI. Most of all, this is what JCI is all about, taking on the challenges ahead to discover and hone your leadership skills.

So, for the year 2010, we shall not only embrace the challenges ahead but we will be Breaking New Grounds. The 2010 Board of Directors has created new and exciting projects that will prepare us for the coming years while we continue to provide opportunities for our members to create positive change.

To my 2010 Board of Directors, thank you for taking this challenge with me. I strongly believe that if we move along together aiming at the same purpose, we can lead the organization to much greater heights. To the Members of JCI Angeles City “Culiat”, thank you for giving me the opportunity to take on the role as your President. I may not be as much a good leader as my predecessors were, but I promise to give you more of the best of me.

So on our 58th year as an organization, I seek everyone’s support so we may continue the legacy that is JCI Angeles City “Culiat”.
